ALLEGATIONS OF RESEARCH MISCONDUCT

Jurnal Maneksi (Management Ekonomi Dan Akuntansi)

  1. Policy Statement

Jurnal Maneksi (Management Ekonomi Dan Akuntansi) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of research integrity, academic honesty, transparency, and publication ethics. The journal takes all allegations of research misconduct seriously and is committed to handling such allegations fairly, objectively, confidentially, and promptly.

Research misconduct undermines the credibility of scholarly publications and the trust of the academic community. Therefore, Jurnal Maneksi has established procedures for receiving, assessing, investigating, and responding to allegations of research misconduct involving submitted or published manuscripts.

This policy applies to authors, co-authors, editors, reviewers, and other individuals involved in the journal's publication process.

  1. Definition of Research Misconduct

Research misconduct refers to violations of accepted standards of research integrity and publication ethics. It may occur during research design, data collection, data analysis, manuscript preparation, peer review, or publication.

Research misconduct includes, but is not limited to, the following:

2.1. Fabrication

Fabrication is the invention of data, research results, observations, or other research information and the presentation of such invented material as genuine.

2.2. Falsification

Falsification involves manipulating research materials, equipment, processes, data, images, or results in a manner that misrepresents the research findings.

2.3. Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the use of another person's words, ideas, data, findings, or other intellectual contributions without appropriate acknowledgment or attribution.

2.4. Duplicate or Redundant Publication

Duplicate or redundant publication occurs when substantially the same research findings are published or submitted for publication more than once without appropriate disclosure or justification.

2.5. Authorship Misconduct

Authorship misconduct includes gift or honorary authorship, ghost authorship, the unauthorized addition or removal of authors, and the misrepresentation of individual contributions.

2.6. Manipulation of the Publication Process

This includes inappropriate manipulation of peer review, fabricated reviewer identities, undisclosed conflicts of interest, coercive citation practices, or other actions intended to improperly influence editorial decisions.

2.7. Misuse of Research Data and Images

This includes unauthorized manipulation, concealment, or misrepresentation of data, figures, tables, financial records, statistical results, or other evidence presented in a manuscript.

2.8. Undisclosed or Inappropriate Use of Artificial Intelligence

This includes the use of artificial intelligence to fabricate data, generate fictitious references, misrepresent research findings, or produce scholarly content in violation of the journal's AI policy.

The use of AI tools alone does not constitute research misconduct. Any concern must be evaluated in the context of the journal's applicable policies and the evidence available.

  1. Reporting Allegations

Any individual who has a reasonable and good-faith concern regarding possible research misconduct in a manuscript submitted to or published by Jurnal Maneksi may report the concern to the editorial team.

Reports may be submitted by authors, reviewers, editors, researchers, readers, institutions, or other concerned parties.

A report should, where possible, include:

  1. The title and bibliographic details of the manuscript or published article.
  2. A clear description of the suspected misconduct.
  3. Supporting evidence, such as relevant documents, source publications, data comparisons, or similarity reports.
  4. The names of the individuals involved, if known and relevant.
  5. Contact information for follow-up, where the reporter is willing to provide it.

The journal encourages specific, evidence-based reports rather than unsupported allegations.

  1. Initial Assessment

Upon receiving an allegation, the Editor-in-Chief or an authorized editorial representative will conduct an initial assessment to determine whether the concern falls within the scope of research misconduct and whether sufficient information is available for further examination.

The initial assessment may include:

  • Reviewing the allegation and supporting evidence.
  • Examining the manuscript, published article, or relevant research materials.
  • Checking relevant sources, citations, data, and similarity reports.
  • Determining whether further clarification or investigation is necessary.

Where an allegation is clearly unsupported or falls outside the journal's remit, the journal may decide not to proceed, while documenting the rationale as appropriate.

  1. Investigation Procedure

If the initial assessment identifies reasonable grounds for concern, the journal may conduct a further investigation.

The investigation may involve the following steps:

  1. Evidence Review: Examining the available evidence and relevant publication records.
  2. Author Notification: Informing the corresponding author of the concerns and requesting a written explanation, where appropriate.
  3. Additional Information: Requesting original data, research documentation, ethical approval records, permissions, or other supporting materials when relevant.
  4. Consultation: Seeking advice from appropriate editorial experts, independent specialists, or the relevant research institution when necessary.
  5. Evaluation: Assessing the evidence and responses impartially before determining the appropriate action.

The journal will provide the individuals concerned with a reasonable opportunity to respond to the allegations, subject to the circumstances and the need to protect evidence or comply with applicable requirements.

  1. Confidentiality and Fair Treatment

Jurnal Maneksi will handle allegations as confidentially as reasonably possible throughout the assessment and investigation process.

Information will be shared only with individuals who need it to assess or investigate the concern, subject to applicable legal, ethical, and institutional requirements.

The journal will seek to protect the rights and reputations of all parties involved. An allegation will not be treated as proof of misconduct, and no adverse conclusion will be reached solely on the basis of an unsupported accusation.

The journal does not tolerate retaliation against individuals who raise concerns in good faith. Knowingly false or malicious allegations may be addressed appropriately.

  1. Possible Editorial Actions

The journal's response will depend on the seriousness of the alleged misconduct, the strength of the evidence, the stage of publication, and the outcome of the assessment or investigation.

Possible actions include:

  • Requesting clarification or additional documentation.
  • Requiring corrections to a manuscript.
  • Rejecting a manuscript before publication.
  • Suspending editorial processing while an investigation is conducted.
  • Issuing a correction or an expression of concern for a published article.
  • Retracting a published article when the evidence and circumstances justify retraction.
  • Notifying the relevant institution, publisher, or appropriate authority where necessary.
  • Restricting future submissions from individuals responsible for serious or repeated violations, where justified by the journal's policies.

The journal will document significant decisions and communicate them to the relevant parties as appropriate.

  1. Handling Misconduct in Published Articles

If research misconduct is suspected or established after publication, Jurnal Maneksi will assess whether the reliability or integrity of the published record has been affected.

Depending on the findings, the journal may:

8.1. Publish a Correction

A correction may be issued when an error can be rectified without invalidating the overall reliability of the article.

8.2. Publish an Expression of Concern

An expression of concern may be issued when significant questions remain unresolved and readers need to be informed while further investigation is pending.

8.3. Retract the Article

Retraction may be considered when the evidence demonstrates that the findings are unreliable, the article contains serious plagiarism, the research has involved major ethical violations, or other circumstances warrant removal of the article's validity from the scholarly record.

Corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions will be clearly identified and linked to the original publication whenever practicable.

  1. Role of Authors, Editors, and Reviewers

Authors

Authors must ensure the accuracy and integrity of their research, retain appropriate supporting records, disclose relevant conflicts of interest, and cooperate with reasonable editorial inquiries.

Editors

Editors must assess allegations objectively, maintain confidentiality, avoid conflicts of interest, and ensure that appropriate procedures are followed.

Reviewers

Reviewers who identify credible concerns about research integrity should inform the editor confidentially and provide relevant evidence where possible. Reviewers must not conduct unauthorized investigations or disclose confidential manuscript materials.

  1. Institutional Involvement

Where an allegation requires formal investigation beyond the journal's authority, Jurnal Maneksi may refer the matter to the author's institution, research organization, funding body, or another appropriate authority.

The journal may request information about the outcome of an institutional investigation when relevant to an editorial decision or the integrity of the published record.

The journal recognizes that institutions may have access to research records and investigative resources that are not available to journal editors.

  1. Appeals and Further Information

Individuals who disagree with an editorial decision related to an allegation of research misconduct may submit a reasoned appeal to the Editor-in-Chief, accompanied by relevant supporting information.

Appeals will be considered by an appropriate editorial representative who is not directly conflicted by the matter, where practicable.

The journal may decline to reconsider decisions when no new relevant evidence or substantive grounds are provided.

  1. Commitment to Research Integrity

Jurnal Maneksi (Management Ekonomi Dan Akuntansi) is committed to protecting the integrity of the scholarly record and promoting responsible research and publication practices.

All allegations of research misconduct will be considered seriously and handled according to the principles of fairness, confidentiality, evidence-based assessment, and accountability.

The journal aims to correct the scholarly record when necessary while safeguarding the rights of authors, reviewers, editors, and other individuals involved in the publication process.
