ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) POLICY

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) POLICY

Jurnal Maneksi (Management Ekonomi Dan Akuntansi)

  1. Purpose and Scope

Jurnal Maneksi (Management Ekonomi Dan Akuntansi) recognizes that Artificial Intelligence (AI), including generative AI tools and large language models, can support academic research, manuscript preparation, and scholarly communication. However, AI use must comply with the principles of academic integrity, transparency, accountability, originality, and publication ethics.

This policy sets requirements for authors, editors, and peer reviewers to use AI responsibly throughout the manuscript submission, evaluation, revision, and publication processes.

This policy applies to all AI tools used for generating or revising text, translating manuscripts, creating images or figures, generating computer code, processing data, conducting analyses, and supporting other research or editorial activities.

  1. General Principles

Jurnal Maneksi applies the following principles to the use of AI in scholarly publishing:

  1. Human Accountability: Authors, editors, and reviewers remain fully responsible for their work and decisions, regardless of whether AI tools are used.
  2. Transparency: The use of generative AI that materially contributes to the content, analysis, interpretation, or presentation of a manuscript must be disclosed.
  3. No AI Authorship: AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot assume responsibility for scholarly work.
  4. Research Integrity: Do not use AI to fabricate data, falsify results, manipulate evidence, or generate misleading references.
  5. Confidentiality: Protect unpublished manuscripts, confidential reviewer reports, and editorial communications from unauthorized disclosure to AI systems.
  6. Human Oversight: A qualified human must critically evaluate and verify AI-generated content before using it in scholarly work.
  7. Fairness and Objectivity: AI must not replace independent scholarly judgment, ethical evaluation, or human responsibility in editorial decisions and peer review.
  1. AI Policy for Authors

3.1. Permitted Uses of AI

Authors may use AI tools responsibly to support their research and manuscript preparation, including:

  • Improving grammar, spelling, punctuation, and academic language.
  • Translating text between languages.
  • Improving readability, clarity, and manuscript organization.
  • Supporting preliminary literature exploration and the development of research ideas.
  • Assisting with programming, coding, and data-processing tasks.
  • Supporting statistical analysis, provided that the methods and outputs are independently verified.
  • Preparing figures, diagrams, tables, and other visual materials, subject to appropriate disclosure and verification.

The use of AI must not replace the authors' intellectual contribution, critical thinking, methodological competence, or responsibility for the research.

3.2. Disclosure Requirements

Authors must disclose the use of generative AI whenever it has materially contributed to the preparation, development, analysis, interpretation, or presentation of the submitted manuscript.

The disclosure should identify:

  1. The name of the AI tool and, where available, its model or version.
  2. The purpose for which the tool was used.
  3. The relevant stages or sections of the research or manuscript in which the tool was applied.
  4. The verification and oversight the authors undertook, where relevant.

Include the disclosure in an appropriate section, such as Acknowledgments, Materials and Methods, or a separate Declaration of AI Use, depending on the nature of the application.

Routine spelling and grammar correction that does not generate substantive content generally does not require a separate declaration.

3.3. Prohibited Uses of AI

Authors must not:

  • Use AI to fabricate, falsify, or manipulate research data, findings, statistical results, or evidence.
  • Generate or cite fictitious references, publications, DOIs, quotations, or other scholarly sources.
  • Present AI-generated text, ideas, images, or other materials as original human work without appropriate disclosure and attribution where applicable.
  • Use AI-generated content without checking its accuracy, originality, and relevance.
  • Upload confidential, personal, sensitive, or restricted research data to AI platforms without proper authorization and adequate data protection.
  • Use AI to conceal plagiarism, duplicate publication, research misconduct, or other violations of publication ethics.
  • List an AI tool as an author or co-author.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that all references, data, calculations, interpretations, and conclusions are accurate and verifiable.

3.4. Author Responsibility

The use of AI does not transfer responsibility for a manuscript to the AI provider or tool. Authors remain accountable for the entire manuscript, including content generated or modified with AI assistance.

Undisclosed or inappropriate AI use may result in a request for clarification, manuscript revision, rejection, correction, or other action under the journal's publication ethics policies.

  1. AI Policy for Editors

4.1. Responsible Editorial Use

Editors may use appropriate AI-assisted tools for limited administrative or technical purposes, such as improving routine correspondence, organizing editorial workflows, or supporting non-confidential administrative tasks, provided that confidentiality and applicable data-protection requirements are maintained.

AI must not replace the editor's independent judgment regarding manuscript quality, originality, ethical compliance, reviewer selection, or publication decisions.

4.2. Confidentiality and Data Protection

Editors must not upload or disclose unpublished manuscripts, reviewer reports, author identities in confidential review processes, editorial correspondence, or other confidential submission materials to public or unauthorized generative AI tools.

Any use of an institutionally approved AI system must comply with the journal's confidentiality requirements, applicable privacy rules, and relevant institutional policies.

4.3. Editorial Decision-Making

Editors must not rely solely on AI-generated assessments to:

  • Accept or reject a manuscript.
  • Determine the scientific validity or originality of a submission.
  • Make definitive allegations of plagiarism, data fabrication, or research misconduct.
  • Select or evaluate reviewers without appropriate human assessment.
  • Determine whether a manuscript meets the journal's ethical and scholarly standards.

Treat AI-generated indicators, summaries, or screening results as potentially fallible and independently verify them.

Editors remain responsible for the fairness, consistency, confidentiality, and integrity of every editorial decision.

4.4. Disclosure of Editorial AI Use

Editors should disclose material use of AI in editorial work when such disclosure is required by the journal's procedures or necessary to maintain transparency and accountability.

Any use of AI must not compromise confidential information, introduce bias, or undermine the independence of the editorial process.

  1. AI Policy for Reviewers

5.1. Independent Peer Review

Peer reviewers must evaluate manuscripts based on their own expertise, critical judgment, and professional knowledge.

Reviewers must not use generative AI tools to generate, summarize, evaluate, or substantially formulate peer-review reports based on unpublished manuscripts entrusted to them for confidential review.

Reviewers may use non-generative tools for basic administrative purposes, such as spelling correction, provided that confidential manuscript content is not disclosed and the integrity of the review is maintained.

5.2. Confidentiality of Manuscripts

Reviewers must not upload, paste, or transfer any portion of an unpublished manuscript, supplementary material, research data, author correspondence, or confidential review documentation to public or unauthorized AI platforms.

This restriction protects the intellectual property of authors, the confidentiality of the peer-review process, and the integrity of editorial evaluation.

5.3. Reviewer Responsibilities

Reviewers are expected to:

  1. Provide original, objective, constructive, and evidence-based evaluations.
  2. Assess the methodology, analysis, interpretation, originality, and relevance of the manuscript independently.
  3. Verify any external information used to support their recommendations.
  4. Avoid making unsupported allegations based on AI-generated detection scores or automated assessments.
  5. Notify the editor if they have concerns regarding possible inappropriate AI use or research misconduct.
  6. Maintain confidentiality throughout the review process.

Reviewers remain personally responsible for the accuracy, fairness, and professionalism of their review reports.

  1. AI Detection and Research Integrity

Jurnal Maneksi may use appropriate screening methods or technological tools to investigate concerns regarding plagiarism, fabricated content, manipulated evidence, or undisclosed AI use.

However, AI-detection tools can produce false positives and false negatives. Do not treat their results as conclusive evidence of misconduct or as the sole basis for rejecting a manuscript.

If concerns arise, the editorial team may request clarification, supporting documentation, original research data (where appropriate), or other relevant evidence from the authors.

The editorial team must assess all concerns fairly and confidentially, with an opportunity for the relevant parties to respond.

  1. Violations and Editorial Actions

Failure to comply with this policy may result in appropriate action depending on the seriousness of the violation, the evidence available, and the stage of the publication process.

Possible actions include:

  • Requesting clarification or additional disclosure.
  • Requiring correction or revision of the manuscript.
  • Rejecting the manuscript.
  • Suspending the editorial or peer-review process while an investigation is conducted.
  • Publishing a correction or retraction when warranted for an already published article.
  • Referring serious concerns to the relevant institution or authority, where appropriate.

Any action will be handled in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies and applicable standards of scholarly publishing.

  1. Policy Review and Updates

Jurnal Maneksi recognizes that AI technologies and scholarly publishing practices continue to evolve. The journal may periodically review and update this policy to reflect developments in research ethics, data protection, editorial practice, and international scholarly publishing standards.

Authors, editors, and reviewers are expected to comply with the version of the policy applicable to their manuscript or editorial assignment.

  1. Ethical Commitment

By submitting a manuscript to, editing for, or reviewing for Jurnal Maneksi (Management Ekonomi Dan Akuntansi), all participants are expected to uphold academic integrity, transparency, confidentiality, and responsible human oversight in the use of AI.

AI may support scholarly work, but it must never replace human accountability, independent scientific judgment, or the ethical responsibilities of authors, editors, and reviewers.

Jurnal Maneksi is committed to promoting responsible AI use while protecting the credibility, originality, and integrity of scholarly publishing.
