CONFLICT OF INTEREST POLICY

CONFLICT OF INTEREST POLICY

Jurnal Maneksi (Management Ekonomi Dan Akuntansi)

  1. Policy Statement

Jurnal Maneksi (Management Ekonomi Dan Akuntansi) is committed to maintaining transparency, objectivity, fairness, and integrity throughout the scholarly publishing process. A conflict of interest may arise when personal, financial, professional, institutional, or other relationships could improperly influence, or reasonably be perceived to influence, the preparation, evaluation, editorial handling, or publication of a manuscript.

All authors, editors, and reviewers are required to disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest that may affect their work or judgment.

The disclosure of a conflict of interest does not automatically disqualify a manuscript from consideration. However, failure to disclose a relevant conflict may compromise the integrity of the editorial process and may result in appropriate action by the journal.

  1. Definition of Conflict of Interest

A conflict of interest exists when an individual's private interests, relationships, or commitments could influence, or appear to influence, their professional judgment or responsibilities in the publication process.

Conflicts of interest may include, but are not limited to, the following:

2.1. Financial Conflicts of Interest

Financial conflicts may involve:

  • Employment, consultancy, or paid advisory relationships.
  • Research funding, grants, honoraria, or sponsorship.
  • Ownership of shares or other financial interests in relevant organizations.
  • Patents, royalties, or commercial interests related to the research.
  • Other financial benefits that could be affected by the publication.

2.2. Personal and Professional Conflicts of Interest

These may include:

  • Family relationships or close personal relationships.
  • Personal disputes or competing interests.
  • Current or recent collaboration with an author.
  • Close supervisory, mentoring, or academic relationships.
  • Professional rivalry or other relationships that may affect impartial judgment.

2.3. Institutional Conflicts of Interest

Institutional conflicts may arise when an individual's employer, affiliated institution, research organization, or funding body has interests that could influence the research or publication process.

2.4. Intellectual and Academic Conflicts of Interest

These may involve strong academic commitments, competing research interests, or other circumstances that could compromise an individual's ability to assess a manuscript objectively.

  1. Responsibilities of Authors

All authors submitting manuscripts to Jurnal Maneksi must disclose any relevant actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest.

Authors are required to:

  1. Declare financial and non-financial interests that may be relevant to the submitted research.
  2. Disclose funding sources and the role of sponsors or funders in the research design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and manuscript preparation.
  3. Identify any employment, consultancy, ownership, or other relationships that may influence the research findings.
  4. Ensure that all co-authors are informed of relevant conflicts of interest.
  5. Provide accurate and complete disclosure statements during submission.
  6. Notify the editor if a relevant conflict is identified after submission or publication.

If no conflict of interest exists, authors should include the following statement in their manuscript:

“The authors declare that they have no conflicts of interest related to the publication of this article.”

Where conflicts exist, authors must provide a clear statement describing the relevant interests and relationships.

  1. Responsibilities of Editors

Editors must maintain independence, fairness, and objectivity when assessing manuscripts and making publication decisions.

Editors are required to:

  1. Disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest related to a submitted manuscript.
  2. Refrain from handling manuscripts where their impartiality could reasonably be questioned.
  3. Transfer editorial responsibility to another qualified editor when necessary.
  4. Avoid using unpublished information obtained through editorial duties for personal, professional, or financial advantage.
  5. Ensure that conflicts of interest are considered appropriately during editorial assessment and peer review.

An editor who is an author or co-author of a submitted manuscript must not make editorial decisions concerning that manuscript. The manuscript should be handled by an independent editor in accordance with the journal's procedures.

  1. Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers must disclose any circumstances that could affect their ability to evaluate a manuscript impartially.

Reviewers are required to:

  1. Inform the editor of any relevant financial, personal, institutional, or professional conflicts.
  2. Decline the review if a conflict is significant enough to compromise impartiality.
  3. Avoid reviewing manuscripts written by close collaborators, current or recent research partners, close personal associates, or individuals with whom they have a significant competing interest.
  4. Maintain confidentiality and refrain from using unpublished information for personal or professional benefit.
  5. Notify the editor if a potential conflict becomes apparent during the review process.

The editor will determine whether the reviewer may proceed or whether another reviewer should be appointed.

  1. Disclosure and Declaration Procedure

Jurnal Maneksi requires relevant conflicts of interest to be disclosed during manuscript submission and, where appropriate, in the published article.

The disclosure procedure includes the following steps:

  1. Declaration: Authors provide a conflict of interest statement during submission.
  2. Editorial Assessment: The editorial team reviews the declaration and determines whether further clarification is necessary.
  3. Additional Information: The editor may request supporting details from authors, editors, or reviewers.
  4. Management: Appropriate measures are taken to minimize the influence of any identified conflict.
  5. Publication Disclosure: Relevant information is included in the published article when necessary for transparency.

The journal may request an updated declaration if circumstances change during peer review or after publication.

  1. Management of Conflicts of Interest

When a conflict of interest is identified, Jurnal Maneksi will take reasonable steps to ensure that the editorial and peer-review processes remain fair and independent.

Depending on the circumstances, the journal may:

  • Reassign the manuscript to an independent editor.
  • Appoint an alternative reviewer.
  • Request additional disclosure from the authors.
  • Include a conflict of interest statement in the published article.
  • Seek further clarification from the relevant parties.
  • Take other appropriate action to protect the integrity of the publication process.

A disclosed conflict will be assessed according to its nature, significance, and potential impact on the research or editorial decision.

  1. Undisclosed Conflicts of Interest

Failure to disclose a relevant conflict of interest may result in further investigation and appropriate editorial action.

Depending on the severity and circumstances, the journal may:

  • Request a correction or additional disclosure.
  • Suspend editorial processing while the matter is reviewed.
  • Reject the manuscript.
  • Publish a correction or expression of concern for a published article.
  • Retract an article if the undisclosed conflict has seriously compromised the reliability or integrity of the published work.

All actions will be determined in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies and the available evidence.

  1. Funding and Sponsor Disclosure

Authors must disclose all sources of financial support relevant to their research, including grants, institutional funding, commercial sponsorship, and other forms of financial assistance.

The funding statement should identify the funding organization and, where applicable, explain the role of the funder in the research process.

If the funder had no involvement in the research design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, manuscript preparation, or publication decision, authors may state:

“The funder had no role in the design of the study; the collection, analysis, or interpretation of data; the preparation of the manuscript; or the decision to publish the results.”

This statement should be used only when it accurately reflects the funder's role.

  1. Post-Publication Disclosure

If a conflict of interest is identified after publication, authors must inform the editorial office as soon as reasonably possible.

The journal will assess whether a correction, additional disclosure, expression of concern, or other action is necessary to maintain transparency and protect the integrity of the scholarly record.

  1. Commitment to Transparency and Publication Ethics

Jurnal Maneksi (Management Ekonomi Dan Akuntansi) expects authors, editors, and reviewers to act honestly, disclose relevant interests, and avoid situations that could undermine trust in scholarly publishing.

The journal is committed to handling conflicts of interest consistently, confidentially, and fairly, with the aim of ensuring that publication decisions are based on scholarly merit, research quality, and ethical standards.
