CORRECTION AND RETRACTION POLICY
Correction and Retraction Policy
- Policy Statement
Jurnal SIMETRIK (Sipil, Mesin, Listrik) is committed to maintaining the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of the scholarly record. The journal recognizes that errors may occasionally be identified after an article has been published and that appropriate corrective action is necessary to preserve the quality and credibility of scientific communication.
This policy establishes the procedures for correcting published articles, issuing expressions of concern, and retracting articles when necessary. All decisions are made by the editorial team based on the available evidence, the nature and significance of the issue, and accepted principles of publication ethics.
- Corrections
A correction may be issued when an error is identified in a published article and the error can be addressed without invalidating the overall research findings or conclusions.
Corrections may include, but are not limited to:
- Errors in author names, affiliations, or other publication metadata.
- Typographical or editorial errors that affect the interpretation of the article.
- Errors in tables, figures, equations, or numerical values.
- Inaccuracies in references, citations, or acknowledgments.
- Other factual errors that require clarification to maintain the accuracy of the published record.
Requests for corrections may be submitted by authors, readers, reviewers, or other individuals who identify a substantive error in a published article.
The editorial team will assess each request and may consult the authors or relevant experts before making a decision.
When a correction is approved, the journal will publish an appropriate correction notice and link it to the original article whenever technically possible. The correction notice should clearly identify the error and provide the corrected information.
Minor typographical errors that do not affect the meaning or interpretation of an article may not require a separate correction notice.
- Retraction
Retraction is an editorial action taken when a published article is found to contain serious problems that undermine the reliability, validity, or ethical integrity of the research.
Grounds for retraction may include:
- Confirmed fabrication or falsification of research data.
- Substantial plagiarism or unauthorized use of another person's work.
- Duplicate or redundant publication that seriously violates publication ethics.
- Serious errors in data, methods, or analysis that invalidate the main findings or conclusions.
- Unethical research practices or significant violations of applicable research ethics requirements.
- Manipulation of the peer-review or publication process.
- Other serious forms of research or publication misconduct that compromise the integrity of the scholarly record.
Retraction is not intended to punish authors for honest mistakes. When an error is genuine and can be adequately corrected without invalidating the main findings, a correction may be more appropriate than a retraction.
- Retraction Procedures
When a potential reason for retraction is identified, the editorial team will follow a fair and evidence-based procedure:
- Initial Assessment: The editor evaluates the concern and determines whether further investigation is necessary.
- Evidence Review: Relevant research data, documents, similarity reports, publications, and other supporting evidence may be examined.
- Author Notification: The corresponding author and, where appropriate, the other authors are informed of the concern and given an opportunity to respond.
- Further Investigation: The journal may consult independent experts or contact the authors' affiliated institutions when necessary.
- Editorial Decision: The editor evaluates the evidence and determines whether a correction, expression of concern, retraction, or other action is appropriate.
- Publication of Notice: If retraction is approved, the journal publishes a clear retraction notice explaining the reason for the decision to the extent that the available evidence permits.
The journal will make reasonable efforts to ensure that decisions are impartial, documented, and proportionate to the seriousness of the issue.
- Expression of Concern
An expression of concern may be published when credible questions arise regarding the reliability or integrity of a published article, but the available evidence is insufficient to reach a final decision or an investigation remains ongoing.
The notice informs readers that the article is subject to an unresolved concern. It may be updated or followed by a correction or retraction when additional evidence becomes available.
- Retraction Notice and Article Availability
When an article is retracted, the journal will retain the original publication as part of the scholarly record whenever technically and legally possible. The article should be clearly marked as retracted, and a separate retraction notice should explain the reason for the retraction.
The retraction notice should include the article title, author names, original publication details, DOI where available, the date of the retraction, and an explanation of the reasons for the decision.
The journal will maintain links between the original article and the retraction notice to help readers identify the status of the publication and avoid relying on findings that have been determined to be unreliable.
- Responsibilities of Authors
Authors are expected to review their published articles carefully and promptly notify the editorial team if they discover significant errors or inaccuracies.
Authors who request a correction or report a potential need for retraction should provide a clear explanation of the issue and relevant supporting evidence.
All authors are encouraged to cooperate with the editorial team during investigations and to provide accurate information necessary to resolve concerns about their publications.
- Responsibilities of the Editorial Team
The editorial team of Jurnal SIMETRIK is responsible for:
- Assessing correction and retraction requests objectively.
- Investigating credible concerns about published articles.
- Providing authors with an appropriate opportunity to respond.
- Consulting independent experts or relevant institutions when necessary.
- Selecting corrective actions that are proportionate to the evidence.
- Maintaining appropriate documentation of editorial decisions.
- Ensuring that correction and retraction notices are clearly linked to the affected articles whenever possible.
Editorial decisions must be based on the reliability and integrity of the published research rather than personal, institutional, or commercial considerations.
- Transparency and Appeals
Authors may submit a written request for reconsideration if they believe that a correction or retraction decision was made on the basis of incomplete or inaccurate information.
The editorial team will review the request and any relevant additional evidence. Where appropriate, an independent editor or qualified expert may be consulted.
The journal will document significant decisions and communicate the outcome to the relevant parties, subject to confidentiality and applicable policies.
- Final Policy Statement
Jurnal SIMETRIK is committed to preserving the integrity of the scientific record and ensuring that published research remains accurate, transparent, and reliable.
Corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions are important mechanisms for addressing errors and ethical problems in scholarly publishing. The journal will apply these procedures responsibly and consistently to protect readers, authors, researchers, and the wider academic community.
This policy may be reviewed periodically to reflect developments in publication ethics and best practices in scholarly publishing.
