PLAGIARISM POLICY

Plagiarism Policy

  1. Policy Statement

Jurnal SIMETRIK (Sipil, Mesin, Listrik), published by the Research and Community Service Center (P3M) of Politeknik Negeri Ambon, is committed to maintaining academic integrity, originality, and ethical standards in scholarly publishing.

Plagiarism in any form is unacceptable. All manuscripts submitted to Jurnal SIMETRIK must represent original scholarly work and must not have been previously published or be under consideration for publication in another journal or scientific publication.

Authors are required to acknowledge all sources of information, ideas, data, figures, tables, and other materials used in their manuscripts.

  1. Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the use of another person's words, ideas, research findings, data, or other intellectual contributions without appropriate acknowledgment, thereby presenting them as one's own work.

Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:

  1. Direct Plagiarism: Copying text or material from another source without proper quotation or citation.
  2. Mosaic Plagiarism: Combining words or passages from multiple sources without adequate acknowledgment.
  3. Paraphrasing Plagiarism: Rewriting another author's ideas without providing an appropriate citation.
  4. Data and Image Plagiarism: Using data, tables, figures, photographs, diagrams, or other research materials without proper attribution or permission where required.
  5. Self-Plagiarism: Reusing substantial portions of one's previously published work without appropriate acknowledgment or disclosure.
  6. Duplicate Publication: Republishing substantially similar work without proper disclosure or submitting the same manuscript simultaneously to multiple journals.
  7. Source Misrepresentation: Citing sources inaccurately or presenting another researcher's findings as original contributions.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts comply with accepted standards of academic integrity and responsible research practices.

  1. Similarity Checking

Jurnal SIMETRIK requires submitted manuscripts to undergo a similarity assessment to identify potential textual overlap with previously published or publicly available materials.

The journal applies a maximum similarity index of 20% for submitted manuscripts, in accordance with its submission announcement.

Manuscripts exceeding the permitted similarity threshold may be returned to the authors for revision and resubmission or rejected, depending on the extent and nature of the identified similarities.

A similarity index of 20% or below does not automatically guarantee that a manuscript is free from plagiarism. The editorial team evaluates the similarity report to determine whether the identified overlap consists of properly cited material, references, standard technical terminology, or potentially problematic copying.

The final editorial decision is based on the similarity report, the context of the overlapping material, and the journal's publication ethics requirements.

The procedure may include:

  1. Reviewing the similarity report and the relevant source materials.
  2. Assessing the extent, context, and nature of the suspected plagiarism.
  3. Requesting clarification or an explanation from the corresponding author.
  4. Determining whether corrections are sufficient or whether the case constitutes serious publication misconduct.
